We’ve brought this to your attention before but, heck, it’s worth doing it again — and for good reason. A short while ago Folkroom Presents released a free(!) compilation album of some of the UK’s most promising rising stars of folk. Many a Wireless act features including Laura Boyle, positioned pride of place at side one, track one.

Why is this of particular significance? Because you can catch Laura, along with Golden Fable, at The Wireless on Friday 24th February.

You can download the album for free by clicking here, or listen until your heart is content using the gizmo below.

If you’re in the market for some new sounds then the new album from First Aid Kit gets The Wireless stamp of approval.

The Lion’s Roar, the Swedish sisters’ second album, is full of enough close harmonies, pedal steel and country twang to make Nashville blush. Have a listen to Emmylou and you should be convinced.

Our final video from last Friday’s Wireless comes courtesy of Robyn Underwood. Robyn, who you may recognise from the cafĂ©, played a short set of beguiling original material early in the night to a hushed crowed. Here she plays Gill

It’s our first ever “One Song, One Camera, One Take” session! The rules: we take an act playing at the Wireless and pull them aside to play us a track of their choosing while we point a camera at them. No second chances, no fancy set up.

First up we have All We Are performing a bombastic version of When Will We Be Married? out in the cold night air of Cassiobury Park. Leaving the instruments indoors, the band opted for just vocals and drum for what turned out to be a rousing version of this old classic.

We’ll have second 1S.1C.1T session from Alex Lipinski for you later this week.
