Thanks to the guys at the wireless, the gig was great and it’s the second time we’ve played there now loved it both times. We’re lucky that we get to play some great nights, and these guys just put on the night once a month because they love music, and have a reputation for putting on great acts (last night we shared the stage with the excellent Thomas Speight).

The Cha Cha Cha Cafe is transformed into a beautiful candle lit atmospheric venue, with a great audience and great Chilli to boot.

Check em out http://www.thewirelesswatford.com

We here at The Wireless are big (massive) fans of the music of M Ward.
Recently he’s found wider fame as the him to Zooey Deschanel’s she in She & Him but his own records are far superior to any of this other outputs.

M Ward’s seventh studio LP, A Wasteland Companion, hits the shelves in April but if you’re as impatient as we are you can stream the whole thing over at NPR

This handy instructional video of last month’s proceedings should convince you that The Wireless is tailor made with greatness, especially for you.

We’ve brought this to your attention before but, heck, it’s worth doing it again —...

We’ve brought this to your attention before but, heck, it’s worth doing it again — and for good reason. A short while ago Folkroom Presents released a free(!) compilation album of some of the UK’s most promising rising stars of folk. Many a Wireless act features including Laura Boyle, positioned pride of place at side one, track one.

Why is this of particular significance? Because you can catch Laura, along with Golden Fable, at The Wireless on Friday 24th February.

You can download the album for free by clicking here, or listen until your heart is content using the gizmo below.

The Lion’s Roar, the Swedish sisters’ second album, is full of enough close harmonies, pedal steel and country twang to make Nashville blush. Have a listen to Emmylou and you should be convinced.

As you probably know, the wonderful Golden Fable are playing The...

As you probably know, the wonderful Golden Fable are playing The Wireless on February 24th. The rules: we take an act playing at the Wireless and pull them aside to play us a track of their choosing while we point a camera at them. No second chances, no fancy set up.

First up we have All We Are performing a bombastic version of When Will We Be Married? out in the cold night air of Cassiobury Park. Leaving the instruments indoors, the band opted for just vocals and drum for what turned out to be a rousing version of this old classic.

We’ll have second 1S.1C.1T session from Alex Lipinski for you later this week.

If you missed The Wireless last night, here’s a video of...

If you missed The Wireless last night, here’s a video of how it went down. We believe that it’s good news that comes bundled as a trio. Here’s a prime example:

1. It’s The Wireless tonight! As you probably know by now: Alex Lipinski, All We Are, music quiz, Cha Cha Cha café, Watford, 8pm. We can’t wait.

2. Neil Young has announced that he’s back working with Crazy Horse and that 2012 could see the release of two whole albums. Exciting times.

3. Ben Folds has announced that the band are getting back together “Fo sho”. We can expect new material this year.

As a bonus point, we don’t know if this is good news or not. Matthew Broderick has confirmed that he is to reprise his role as Ferris Bueller.

Tom Billington is a familiar face at The Wireless. The Mohair man has played a couple of times for us now and he always brings with him both talent and charm in equal measure.

The last time Tom played for us he showcased a few numbers from his upcoming album As Luck Would Have It. Well, that album isn’t so upcoming any more. It’s available on digitally via iTunes on the 13th of next month and, for those of you who like something more tangible, you can buy the CD right now from Tom’s online store.

If can’t wait to wrap your ears around it then you’re in luck. Tom has made the whole album available to stream using this handy bit of internet magic. Enjoy.
